Why The Eyebrow Shape is Essential For Microblading

 •

Varvara Blog

Warning: the below person did not seek initial microblading services from Varvara Brows, but instead came to repair them.

No matter which eyebrow procedure you prefer (waxing, threading, tweezing, microblading etc.), I cannot stress enough the importance of having the proper eyebrow shape. My goal for this blog post is to help you realize through a real-life example how essential it is to choose a microblading specialist with shaping expertise. As we all know, the shape of an eyebrow can either make or break the face, but even worse, an improper eyebrow shape can take months to repair.

Awhile back, a client of mine came to me to repair her brows after their shape had been distorted from a prior eyebrow procedure. She wanted like most women want, to put down the makeup and eyebrow pencil and go for a more permanent brow solution.

The first two pictures below, show how her eyebrows were shaped with and without makeup, prior to her dermablading consultation.

She went ahead with a micro-dermablading (aka microblading) procedure hoping to achieve a similar look and effect to the first two photos. What she got, however, was not what she was looking for.

The next picture shows how the eyebrows started to transform after the procedure when the eyebrow specialist decided to change the shape of the eyebrow dramatically. It is also worth mentioning that the “specialist” did not know how to or chose not to apply natural colors to enhance the client’s features and cultivate a 3D appearance. After that we see how the dermablading started to fade and how it absolutely destroyed the natural shape of the eyebrow.

after microblading, client was unhappy with the shape

As time went on, in order to match the appearance of the permanent eyebrow created for her, the client started to clean up her own eyebrow and when the dermablading faded and she stopped matching the brow, she realized that only half of the eyebrow was left.

This is why when it comes to any eyebrow procedure, but especially dermablading, the shape of the eyebrow is crucial. The eyebrow specialist should make shaping the brow her number one priority over the color and the hair stroke. The latter two should be considered secondary concerns.

In cases like these, where the brow needs to be drastically repaired, the process can take anywhere from 4-6 months to fully restore the shape of the brow. Making this not only a time-consuming process but also a pricey one as well.

This is why it’s important to understand that while microblading procedures can be pricey, it’s important to understand that you pay for the quality of work that is desired.

While $100-$200 dermablading procedures boast to give amazing results, many times the procedures are done with a less intensity of care and the necessary expertise.

When it comes to choosing a specialist to perform any procedure on any part of the face, you have to be very careful and very selective with whom you will entrust essentially one of the most important aspects of the body and your look!

Achieving natural and beautiful eyebrows takes time, patience and dedication. It’s a process that requires a certain area of expertise, a level of understanding on how the hair works, moves and grows.

How to Tame Unruly Brows

 •

How to tame unruly brows feature img

Unruly eyebrows seem to have a mind of their own and it can be difficult to tame and deal with misbehaving hair. Whether you have a few stray hairs that point up, or hairs that point in different directions, when your eyebrow hairs refuse to behave, there are some simple and quick remedies that you can do right at home to get your brows back in line before your next brow appointment.

Things You’ll Need:

  1. Eyebrow brush or spoolie
  2. Eyebrow wax or gel

What You’ll Do

  1. Using an eyebrow brush, or spoolie brush your eyebrows up and outward. Repeat this step a few times until most of your eyebrow hairs are laying flat and smoothly down.
  2. Next, apply a brow-taming wax or gel product. You can usually find these in stores that sell cosmetics. An example of a good taming wax is Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Primer , which comes in a convenient pencil form. Simply run the product over the brows and the wax will apply a natural, yet firm hold.

If using a product that contains a brush applicator, simply run the brush through the individual eyebrows strands. If any hairs remain, I recommend seeking a brow specialist, as cutting, trimming or plucking brows can often distort the appearance of the brows, especially unruly ones.

However, if it’s an absolute must, I always tell our clients to brush down the hair and cut the tips of the curl. I suggest doing it slowly, hair by hair before going in a cutting all in one chunk, to avoid making any mistakes.

Warning:

When trimming unruly brows, do NOT cut the length at the beginning of highest point of your arch to the end. While it may seem that you hairs are unreasonably long, long hair on the ends of the brows tend to masquerade sparse areas and make the brow end look fuller and longer. So keep them in order to achieve a neater, fuller look.

Trusting the Process: The Importance of Trust in Microblading

 •

Microblading Image
You’ve tried every solution known to man to remedy your brows, and you’ve finally decided that microblading was the best solution for you. You find a reputable specialist, schedule your consultation and you’re all ready to go. You arrive at said location, eagerly ready to flaunt your news brows, and after a few minutes of talking with your specialist you realize one big problem: your specialist doesn’t trust your opinion and you don’t trust theirs.

When it comes to microblading, trust is one of the biggest factors in achieving a flawless, natural look, if not THE most important factor. And it’s not just clients trusting the specialist, it’s the specialist also trusting the client.

Since microblading is considered an art, it’s easy to understand why there can differences in opinions. Your client may want arched brows to a degree you find absurd, and your specialist wants to give you brows as dark as Groucho Marx.

But art after all, is a highly debatable subject.

So how do you come to compromise?

It’s important to remember that each party brings a valuable asset to the team: the client knows the look they want to achieve, however your area of expertise is to craft and eyebrow that they didn’t even know was possible.

Therefore, when sitting down with a brow specialist or client, it’s important to keep an open mind and try to not let preconceptions or stubbornness guide your adjustment. In doing so, you’ll ensure that you both have a smooth and fun process.
